PhysicsNEET 2024Displacement current and Maxwell's equations (qualitative)

Electromagnetic Waves

A parallel plate capacitor is charged by connecting it to a battery through a resistor. If is the current in the circuit, then in the gap between the plates:

  1. A.Displacement current of magnitude equal to flows in the same direction as
  2. B.Displacement current of magnitude equal to flows in a direction opposite to that of
  3. C.Displacement current of magnitude greater than flows but can be in any direction
  4. D.There is no current

Solution

Between the plates the changing electric field constitutes a displacement current , equal in magnitude to the conduction current and in the same direction, so the current is continuous around the circuit.
