Urine formation and its regulation
Why this is asked: The huge gap between GFR (about 125 mL/minute, 180 L/day filtered) and actual urine output (1-1.5 L/day) exists because roughly 99% of the filtrate is reabsorbed — most of it "obligatory" reabsorption in the PCT that happens regardless of hydration, while the small remainder in the DCT and collecting duct is "facultative," switched on by ADH only when the body needs to conserve water.
