Human Reproduction

Given below are two statements: one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R.

Assertion A: FSH acts upon ovarian follicles in the female and Leydig cells in the male.

Reason R: Growing ovarian follicles secrete oestrogen in the female while interstitial cells secrete androgen in the male human being.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. A.Both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A
  2. B.A is true but R is false
  3. C.A is false but R is true
  4. D.Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

Solution

FSH acts on ovarian follicles in females but on Sertoli cells in males; Leydig cells respond to LH — so A is false. Growing follicles do secrete oestrogen and interstitial (Leydig) cells do secrete androgens — R is true.
